Jim Scott and Burt Falk in the rain on Glen Pass
+++
In 1978, just after Labor Day, Dad and I gathered in the scrubby little town of Independence with Jim Scott and two other climbing friends from the Sierra Club, Dale and Joanna Stein. Up early the next morning, we filled our packs with nylon tents, down sleeping bags, propane stoves, and the food we’d need for four days in the wilderness. After our packs were buckled up, we piled ropes and climbing hardware on top and began the long walk up through Onion Valley’s talus fields.
We were headed for Sixty Lakes Basin, which sits at the base of Mount Clarence King.
